More than 1,400 Civil War-related objects are on display in the 9,200-foot “Turning Point: The American Civil War” exhibition. A year-by-year general overview features military, civilian and political themes. Open Monday–Saturday 10 am–5:30 pm; Sunday noon–5:30 pm. $14.50/adult (includes galleries and house museum tours).

Georgia Capitol / Museum


431 State Capitol, Atlanta GA 30334

Union troops camped on the grounds here after Confederates evacuated in September 1864. The current building was completed in 1889, following the state capital move from Milledgeville after the war. Museum displays in the building include Civil War artifacts. Other markers and artifacts on the grounds. Museum open Monday–Friday 8 am–5 pm. Free.

Stone Mountain Park

East of Atlanta, U.S. Highway 78, Exit 8, Stone Mountain GA 30087

One of the features of this spectacular amusement park is the world’s largest bas-relief carving of Confederate heroes Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson. A museum on the grounds includes large Civil War collection. $10 parking fee. Additional fees apply for some attractions.
